Journey of Faith is Hopewell

Journey of Faith is Hopewell’s response to the blessings God is giving us.  Our current facility is being used near its total capability and our congregation continues to grow.  We have over 500 people in worship on any given Sunday and 115 plus in Children’s Ministry, and our buildings house activities most everyday and evening.  Because of our faith in God and our desire to witness to our growing community, we, through sincere church wide prayer, feel God has led us on a Journey of Faith.  This Journey is to build facilities which will allow us a larger area for worship, 35 plus additional classrooms, greatly increased nursery and preschool ministries, rehearsal space for our music ministries, additional parking and multiple areas of multipurpose space.  What we are able to accomplish today for Christ will reach another generation of believers as they too seek God’s will in their lives.  We ask that you begin by praying and ask God what can you and your family do for Him in this Journey.  Ask questions and get involved.  We have members of the Journey of Faith team available to help in the church lobby every Sunday.  Also please feel free to contact the church with your concerns.

Our goal is to extend the ministries, witness, and outreach of Hopewell Baptist Church.  We need facilities to allow this to happen and we are praying for God’s guidance and direction looking for how He can use each of us.

Our financial challenge is to raise 2.2 million dollars.  This Journey began in May of 2007 and we are committed to reaching this goal by May 2010.  We have had a tremendous response and our commitments are close to 2.1 million.  Thus far, our actual money received is on target and we intend to celebrate our victories as we go and step forward in faith.

Faith will take us as far as we allow God to reach into our lives and as far as we commit ourselves to Him.  Begin praying now and reach out in faith with your church family.  We have printed information along with commitment cards available in the front lobby each Sunday.

Thank you,

THE “JOURNEY OF FAITH” BEGINS AT HOPEWELL

Our Past

Hopewell Baptist Church was established in 1876 with fifteen charter members.  The first church conference held at Hopewell was March 10, 1876.  At that conference they elected their first pastor, D. J. Maddox, decided to purchase one-half dozen Baptist Hymnals at $3.00 each, and they collected a special offering!

At conference in 1877, there was a motion and a second that a church building be built.  By 1885 the church was relocated to its present location (the old brick building) and rebuilt.  Since then, there have been multiple building campaigns to remodel and update the facilities.

Do you think any of those saints could ever have imagined that the Sixes community and surrounding area would be what it is today?  And yet we are who we are today because of the saints of the past, and the hope and commitment of each Hopewell Baptist member.

Our Challenge

Once again we are challenged to build in order to accommodate our growing church needs.  We are faced with our biggest challenge ever in building an auditorium and classroom space that will accommodate our growing needs.

The call to build is our response to the overwhelming blessings of God upon Hopewell Baptist.  It involves each of us determining to obey the voice of God.

Currently every room is used two times on Sunday for Bible study classes as well as two worship services to accommodate our Sunday morning attendance.  Our existing facilities are being used to full capacity and often beyond their intended use.  I believe we have been good stewards of the use of our facilities, but I believe it is time to build in order to faithfully serve the people God continues to bring to Hopewell.

Our Solution

As the people of Hopewell, we understand God’s mission for us is to grow, expand and build upon this ministry according to God’s good purpose.  With that in mind, we have done a study of our needs for the next five years. First things first--we have made the commitment to eliminate our $1.2 million debt.  The new building program will involve building a 1000 plus seat auditorium that will be multipurpose in function.  It will accommodate our worship, recreation and fellowship.  Beneath the worship center will be a state-of-the-art children’s building to accommodate our growing Children’s Ministry.  Our staff offices and administrative space will be a part of the new building allowing our Student Ministries to enlarge.  And then finally needed recreational areas such as ball fields and play areas will be addressed along with much needed additional parking.  As you can see, this building plan involves almost every area of need in our ministry at Hopewell Baptist Church.  I am simply asking every member to do his/her part.  By working together we will see the hand of God move in a great way.

Because I care,

 Pastor Norman
